Three years in the making 'The Way Things Were' is the latest album to come from Hip Hop artist MJ. Inspired by changes in her personal life and the social changes of 2020, 'The Way Things Were' showcases the skills of this amazing female rapper. "I wanted to show that I have something to say and I have a beautiful way of expressing that" explains MJ. When she started this project she was still developing as an artist, but now she feels like she is at the end of that journey and the album documents this self-growth.

Not your typical female rapper, MJ is a poet who uses her pen as a brush and words to paint a picture. After releasing several freestyles on SoundCloud she released her debut album, "Live Through Me" in 2014. After moving to Houston to further her career she released her follow up mixtape "MEEZUS" in 2016. MJ makes both fun and conscious music. She is inspired by the constant tumultuous racial landscape in America but she also opens up about her life and outlook on life. Citing Lauryn Hill, Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar as key influences, MJ is certainly one to watch in 2021!

Blending the auto-tune and reverb-soaked sound of contemporary rap, with a melodic and mellow vibe that this track is, the vocal performance and lyrics set the tune to just chill out and listen to the contrasting choruses at the same time keeping a high energy vibe.

Mitt Holly, was introduced to music composition in 4th grade, first becoming accustomed to the alto saxophone. He learned to read and play music at a rapid rate and made the switch to drums in high school. Mitt is completely self-taught on the drums and learned by playing to Sum 41 and Blink 182 songs. Sophomore year of high school, he fell in love with hip-hop music and would study rap composition and flow from the likes of Kanye West, OutKast, and Ludacris. He began writing rap songs in high school and recorded his first track, a remix to Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow," Junior year in college at Colorado State University when one of Mitt's roommates dared him to make a song. In college, he wrote and recorded over 100 songs, only a few of which were ever released. After graduating college with a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Exercise Science, Mitt moved to California where he formed a hip-hop duo, headlining shows on a monthly basis. After 3 years of living in California, he moved to Hawaii, where he now resides. Mitt is currently working on several music videos and an extensive marketing strategy to gain attention and create a fan base. His sound can be described as hip-hop anthems with melodic hooks. Jake Griffus Tackles Tough Issues On “Candlelight”

California-based lyricist Jake Griffus sees
his music as a form of therapy. Delivering conscious bars and covering various topics,
he taps into parts of the listener’s mind, helping them through the darkness into the
healing light. With a new album on the way, he gets things started with the release of a
new single, “Candlelight”.

Produced by Entheogenesis Productions, “Candlelight” finds Jake grapples with
heavy topics such as suicidal tendencies and fighting demons. With his unique
wordplay, he paints a dark picture of what people are going through, and finds himself
trying to help others out of that darkness. Although “Candlelight” is not a typical Hip
Hop track, listeners will find themselves hitting rewind to see the vivid pictures Jake
Griffus paints. Accompanying the single is a music video that further amplifies his
lyrics. “Candlelight” will be featured on Jake’s forthcoming, full-length 2021 release,
“The Operator”.

Growing up in Palmdale, California, Jake Griffus’ love for music started at a very early
age, as he was exposed to various artists in his neighborhood and in the media.
Having difficulties expressing himself, it was Hip Hop that helped him to find his voice
and gave him the space to share his thoughts and talent. As a rapper, he saw that his
music was like rehab that could assist many who deal with different struggles. As a
member of Secondhand Thieves and Entheogenesis Productions, he provides
politically charged lyrics, and conscious bars that will find him in good company
among many of Hip Hop’s greats.

Jake Griffus’ “Candlelight” is now available on all digital music streaming platforms
with distribution through CD Baby. The music video for “Candlelight” is now available
for viewing on Secondhand Thieves’ official YouTube channel.
