It is utterly insane how electric Jetcity Records can make a twenty-two track project sound. With their long-awaited debut, “Welcome To Jet City”, this high-flying Hip-Hop collective takes compilation albums to new, modern-trap heights.

Almost every track on “Welcome To Jet City” is a profound posse cut. Loco 2k, Nucky JMC, Rup Monsta, Skyler, Big Ox, Aye Michelle, and Ag Souljah are the prominent pyromaniacs of the album; blazing through hooks and verses with lyricism and inflections that keep the energy at an all time high. What is likewise captivating about “Welcome To Jet City” is that it is not a constant stream of original content. Rocking the ride, every now and then, is the turbulence of mainstream remixes. “Thotiana” by Blueface; “Lil Bebe” by Danileigh; “Middle Child” by J Cole; “Going Bad” by Meek Mill and Drake; each one of these records are terrifically remixed by the talents on this album, steering it into clouds of spontaneous exhilaration. Certainly, “Welcome To Jet City” may intimidate you with the length of its tracklist. However, once play is pressed, and the debut opus truly takes off, you will not regret a single song. With such an invigorating list of bangers, this soaring collective simply cannot be shot down.

Are we living a dream or reality? The latest effort by LIV3 FR33, a Los Angeles brand spearheaded by producer-artist, NIU Kno, blurs that line with excellence. For “Life, Is But A Dream”, a compilation album outfitted with nine, lucid tracks, the artist(s) gives the themes of sleep, dreaming, and afterlife, sonic prevalence. Its features lunge from Fatlip, 777Kamikaze and Kay Franklin to Mary Dee, Korryn Gaines and NIU Kno himself, with each one of these artists delivering an idiosyncratic twist to the overall concept of the project. Samples are lush and plentiful; drums frolic in the fields of both trap and boom-bap; and the bars on “Life...” are beyond bewildering. Spin joints such as “Sleepwalking”, “Sunshine”, “Virtual Insanity”, or even the penultimate record “Walk Str8”, and the reverie of life will equivalently reveal itself to you. For “Life, Is But A Dream” is an unavoidable epiphany that LIV3 FR33 flawlessly inspires.

Listen closely to the lyrics of Papalee, and you will feel as if he is narrating your life. That is how relatable his slick rhymes, over arcade-esque melodies, and easy delivery, over throbbing 808s comes off. To say the least, this Philadelphia artist is stylistically tasteful whilst remaining tranquilly visceral; qualities that make “Just A Matter Of Time” the album-of-the-summer contender that it is. For, it is undeniable that this album is teeming with hits. Every record within the scope of this ten track release— which sees features from Datslucy, ROLLO, SZN, Jacquie Joshua, Hooligan the Demigod, and Har— is radiating with starpower. They highlight not only Papalee’s versatility; but, likewise, the rapper’s ability to create surefire bangers in any form he pleases. From the heart-rending, melancholic ballad of an intro, “Stuck In My Ways”, to the party-ready thumpers “Know The Game”, “The Woahh”, and “Come From”; as well as the trap romance of “Queen” and “On Ur Mind”; each song brings a fresher and more exhilarating sound than the last to the overall body of work. All the while giving us a glimpse into a young man’s life, unfolding night by night, in The City of Brotherly Love. While the instrumentals of this extended-play will make it unfathomably trendy; the lyrics of Papalee himself will set it far apart from its contemporaries. California alternative rap artist and producer Does Matter delivers his latest album, West Toast, that features 25 exclusive tracks. Reminiscent of early Odd Future and Lil B, his sound ranges from experimental to dark to strange as he pretty much does whatever he likes on each song. What stands out throughout the album Does Matter’s shocking lyrical content that can either get a little scary, a little kinky or a little out there, hence the outer space theme on the album’s artwork. Although his voice mainly stays in a 21 Savage-like monotone throughout West Toast, Does’ energy level picks up a bit on tracks like “Here to Freestyle the Freestyle” where he shows up to drop some hot ones over hard-hitting, bass-heavy production. A highlight on the album is the closing track “Rich with No Money, Famous with No Fame” that has a mean bassline and displays a more energetic Does with one of the waviest flow on the project. With their first three projects, “Koinda Vol. 1”, “Koinda Vol. 2”, and “Koinda Vol. 2.5” (Producers Only Album), the Koindanomics collective succeeded in bringing their worldly agenda new light. They focused greatly on showcasing talents from around the world; cultivating international bodies of work that spread their message of global growth, community, and love. Now, after all of that amazing externality, Koinda Records are changing directions; dedicating their latest installment, “Koinda Vol. 3”, to the power of self. Presented as a “meditation album”, this eight-track opus is devoted entirely to spiritual betterment and growth. For its four zen-ful, mind-calming instrumentals, the collective tapped A-Rell and See See Beats. For the three “guided meditations”, Ace Burns is our tranquil host. Ajgod is certainly putting on for NorCal. Amid the rise of acts such as Blueface, 03 Greedo, and Shoreline Mafia, one would think that Los Angeles holds all the talent California has to offer. Reason why a young Oakland spitter is bound to show us otherwise. With only eight tracks, Ajgod proves there is an “E.S.O.Teric” side of the Golden State that must be acknowledged. Brandishing elements of the hyphy, Bay Area sound, “E.S.O.Teric” is an undoubtable contender for Californian classic status. Its bounce, energy and groove, complimented by Ajgod’s powerful delivery and flows, give the project this vitality that can not be denied. From the opening banger “Coming Home”, all the way to the closer, “Departure”, “E.S.O.Teric” maintains a level of energy only The Bay can provide. Out the gate, K.Ray proves he is leagues beyond his competition. He consolidates what could have been a brisk, three-song EP, into six minutes of seamless music; and uses the track to introduce an even larger body of work. Aberrant work that borders extra-terrestrial. That is “Life’s a mess”: thirty minutes of unconventional, yet gravitating rap from a Columbus, Georgia creative. On this nine track opus, it feels as though K.Ray is almost making a point of leaning away from Hip-Hop’s present direction. Yes, he raps, but the way he does so; the way he crafts his music is unlike anything you’ve heard thus far. Modern-trap production is dispersed into clouds of melody and liquid-like drums. Introspective rhymes abruptly ascend into autotuned harmonies and sampled chops. The album completely embodies its title. It is a mess that us listeners can’t even begin to clean. Yet, by the end of its runtime; by the end of this mind-opening body of work, you won’t want to, either way.
